New Westchester Symphony Orchestra holds its annual tradition of a free Messiah Sing-along open to the public at Briarcliff Congregational Church. We provide the vocal scores, you provide the voices!
We will perform several excerpts from Handel's oratorio, along with The Heaven's Are Telling from Haydn's The Creation. All singers are welcome to attend an optional "warm-up rehearsal" at 1:00pm-2:15pm, prior to the performance. There will be light refreshments served after rehearsal.
Program
HANDEL Messiah (excerpts)
HAYDN Overture and "The Heavens Are Telling" (The Creation)
VAUGHAN WILLIAMS Fantasia on Greensleeves

Each year, NewWSO will perform a core selection of popular Messiah excerpts, including much of Part I, along with a rotating selection of lesser known movements. There may be other theme-appropriate choral works programmed each year. For a complete working list of excerpts, visit our "Current Repertoire" page.
We provide the scores on loan, but you are free to bring your own (we sing Messiah in the original English). If you wish to practice at home, you can find vocal scores linked to the names of the pieces on the "Current Repertoire" page.
Our motto is, "Great music played by anyone. For everyone." Come and join as you are. You may wish to sing just the Hallelujah chorus, or sing all of it. We'll do a few solo movements as well, but we welcome everyone to join in, regardless of voice type. Or, just sit back and cheer on your friends and family!
We will reserve the first rows for folks who want to sit "by voice," but you are welcome to sit with your friends and family.
Nothing! NewWSO's concerts are free to the public. However, we encourage your generous donations, either at the door or on our website. It takes a community to support an orchestra, and only through your support can events like these continue. Remember that your donations are fully tax-deductible.
Music Director Steven Huang will lead an optional rehearsal on the day of the concert, from 1pm-2:15pm, followed by modest refreshments. Guided by consensus of those attending, he will focus on the more difficult parts of the repertoire, including any non-Messiah choral works. Unless those attending request it, we will probably not go over the Hallelujah chorus. If you have specific requests, please feel free to email him at stevenwhuang@gmail.com
The Briarcliff Church parking lot is quite small, but there is ample free parking at the Briarcliff Manor Public Library on Pleasantville Road.
